Goal Setting

Goal setting is a process by which a person decides what he/she wants to accomplish in his life and formulation of different strategies through which he/she might achieve those. The most important part of a goal setting is to create a plan for the particular goal which we want to accomplish.

But, a sad fact is that most of them fails to create an effective plan for the goal which they wish to accomplish. People are highly motivated nowadays due to the highly competitive environment surrounding them and the lucrative packages/benefits that awaits them, once they finish their task. But, most of them lacks a plan in executing such a task. Taking the case of an academic live project, we often find that students may keep their tasks until it reaches the "11th hour". As a result, most of them won't be able to meet the "deliverables" that are expected to be achieved during the time period. One of those deliverables will be finding an appropriate CLIENT in their areas of interest. For that, students are required to obtain their approval for initiating their tasks. But, if the things are been delayed until the last minute, they wont be able to finalize at least one client. So,here comes the relevance of GOAL SETTING.

For an efficient GOAL SETTING, the SMART technique is to be followed while setting objectives. First of all, the goal should be SPECIFIC.For example, if it is a personal goal, it can be securing a job in ITC Ltd. Secondly, the goal should be MEASURABLE. In this case, it can be achieving an aggregate of over 65% in MBA course. Next, it should be ATTAINABLE. The goal should be RELEVANT also, in the sense, it should be aligned with the context. And finally, it should be TIME BOUND. The participant should ensure that the goal can be achieved with in the stipulated time period itself.

Planning is the ultimate strategy which requires maximum amount of time and effort.Especially, if the objectives are written prior to execution, according to a research there is possibility for it to be 30% more successful . If the planning is done effectively, the efforts required to achieve the particular goal will be minimal only.
